Aren’t we all looking for motherhood tips and tricks to simplify our life? Work, kids, relationships, and extra activities all add up to a busy day and life. If don’t know how to wrangle the daily chaos or need help getting it under control these simple tips and tricks will help streamline your day. I’ve group them into various categories, organization, kitchen/food, Kids, chores, and helpful apps. Hopefully you can implement a couple or all of these tips for a more simplified life.
I am putting them into practice at my own household and already can see a feel a difference in my household. My family is all helping out which gives us more quality family time. Yay! Happy Mama, happy kids!
Organization
Before you had kids I’m sure your house was tidy and nicely organized and if not you could knock out a room or project in a weekend. Once the kids arrived I’m sure your household storage all changed. Decluttering will change your life. No need to hold onto baby toys once you are done with having kids. Donate clothes that you or your partner don’t wear anymore. Cleaning up throughout the day will drastically help with the after bedtime tidy up and turn into your wind down time :). This is one of the key motherhood tips.
- Keep a donation bin in each kids room. Keep in the closet or playroom (I suggest keep up high, and out of sight. Kids won’t take any items out to try to keep)
- Store a basket or bin in kids closet for clothes too small. Easily toss items kids outgrow. Have a tub or bin also in closet with the next size up.
- Have a designated Goodwill tub in garage, once full drop off at Goodwill.
- Use an empty laundry basket or picking up all stray items around the house throughout the day.
- Have a shoe, jacket, and backpack drop zone in the garage with cubbies or bookshelves. No dirt tracked into the house and all in one place ready to go for the next morning.
- Never leave a room without taking something upstairs with you. Cuts down on clutter around the house.
- Shoe bin by the door for kids shoes. They know where to find them when heading out the door.
Kitchen/Food
Kids love food and families need to eat. I’d much rather spend time with my family then prepping a huge meal and then having to do deal with the clean up. Meal planning and prepping over the weekend really helps our family stay on track with meals and our budget. Also allow for flexibility in your meal calendar. Leftovers, pizza delivery night, or one of our favorites breakfast for dinner are easy go to meals if you have had a busy day.
- Plan weekly meal plan. Less deciding throughout the week and keeps you from over spending or wasting food.
- Also have a handful of freezer meals ready to go for night when you don’t have dinner planned or schedules change last minute.
- Use a pizza cutter to cut small children’s food. Perfect for bite size pieces.
- Run the dishwasher overnight every night. Will be clean and ready to go by the time you wake up.
Kids
Kids thrive on routine and setting up a great schedule to help you and them is a win win situation! This is another top motherhood tips. These are some helpful things you do help in daily routine. Easy things you can keep around the house to help with any situations may arise. You know the extra healthy diapers you may have, carsickness, and the daily spills.
- Pick kids outfits the night before. No more fighting to get dressed in the morning, or running late.
- Hang all kids clothes. No more folding, and able to see everything at once.
- Keep a sock bin in mudroom or in shoes. No more running upstairs.
- Toddlers, brush their hair, put socks and shoes one while contained in the high chair. Hopefully they won’t notice while they are eating.
- Store a hanging folder file box for each child’s for kids artwork and important school papers. Only save the most important items. The rest quietly trash.
- Keep diapers and wipes in every room your kids frequent. No more running up and down the stairs for diapers.
- Have extra plastic bags in the back of the car seats for any messes. Keep extra paper towels, baby wipes, outfit change handy as well.
Chores
Changing up your chore and cleaning routine through out the day can really help to knock out all those daily home tasks. I’ve found running the dishwasher and washing machine while I sleep helps tremendously. Get the kiddos to more hands on and help out, even make cleaning up at the end of the day some sort of game.
- Try to do one load of laundry a day. Keep the washing machine door open (top loader) so you can throw stuff in and always know when you need to switch out to the dryer.
- Use delay mode on dishwasher & washing machine, set to run and finish just before you wake up.
- Set alarms on Alexa for household chores. daily or for certain days for specific tasks.
- 15 minute clean up timer at the end of the day, everyone helps straighten up before bed.
- Laundry basket for each family member, separate as soon as it comes out of the dryer. Hand off basket to family member to fold and put away.
- Use a shower caddy to carry all cleaning supplies from room to room. Stock with paper towels, plastic bags for trash, and sprays, sponges, and scrubbers.
- Clean the bathroom while kids are taking a bath.
Helpful Apps
Apps are so useful in streamlining errands, sharing calendars and to do list, and getting kids to complete tasks. Use these apps to complete errands for you. Another motherhood tips is to outsource as much as you can.
- Cozi: A shared family app that can make to do lists, shared calendars, shopping lists. Add family members to view all dates and lists.
- EMeals: A meal planning app. You can select diet preferences, will generate a shopping list and you can directly send to grocery delivery services like instacart.
- Instacart : grocery delivery service.
- Amazon Alexa:
- Drop in (intercom), call kids in their rooms
- Set routines for wake up or bedtime for kids
- Set alarms for kids household chores to complete ( so Mom doesn’t have to be the nag, Alexa is š )
