Happy New Years and here is my life lately! Cheers to 2021 and see ya later 2020. I think we can all agree last year was certainly not what we originally expected and ended up being extremely difficult. I am happy to put 2020 in the past and move onto a new year. January 1st is always a fresh start for new goals and beginnings. Not sure why but turning 35 this past summer was sort of a “quarter/mid life ” awakening (I won’t call it a crisis) but it opened my eyes to things I need to change and make a priority in my life. Make more time for self care, better sleep, and get our family into a good groove and schedule (responsibilities, more family dinners, keep up with house chores, etc). As for my business I am shooting for a goal of consistent focus on my blog and growth. It’s finally a new year I am putting to practice what I’ve been preaching since this summer. Bring it on 2021!
The last couple of months my family has alllllll been at home together alll day everyday. Here is the latest on our life lately. We have been basically doing full remote (except for 6 in person days) schooling for our oldest who is in Kindergarten since August. Preschool for our youngest was cancelled and my husband has been working from home. It’s been quite the adjustment. There is no personal space for anyone and finding a quiet space is a challenge especially with two small children. Another struggle is to get a 5 year old to sit and watch a zoom class and then to do math and reading lessons on a tablet with me as the teacher has been hard (all while a 2 year old is running around asking for attention). So here are my goals for 2021.
Take better care of myself
2020 was not a friend to taking care of myself. Like many of us the pandemic stressed me out. I turned to food, wine, and late night reality shows. I thought this would help me unwind, which did the first month or two but then it kept going and going. I have realized as I get older how precious sleep is. I used to be able to run on only a couple of hours but not anymore! I am making a priority to go to bed at a reasonable time. No more cranky mama in the morning! Also making better food choices will help keep me feeling good and give me energy to keep up with these kiddos. Finally I want to make sure I find some alone time just for me to clear my head or something just for myself. A nice long walk, a run to Starbucks alone, or a mommy time out to read or take a quick cat nap. A happy mama makes happy kids!
Simplify family life & routine
We had a great family schedule going on before Covid hit then that all went out the window. With nowhere to go and stuck at home everything kinda went into survival mode. Months later we are getting back to a better timeline and have our day laid out but the house work NEVER stops. Since we are all home all week the dishes, loads of laundry, and house chores never end. I plan on adding more responsibilities to my kids chore charts and instating more family expectations for keeping the house tidy. Right now it’s a free for all. Not sure how attempting the chaos of kids toys and stuff will go but we are going to try! I feel like it will help us all have clear heads.
Set attainable business goals
This year I really want to continue to set dedicated time aside for my businesses and give them the attention they deserve to grow and thrive. The pandemic has certainly caused lots of roadblocks for me. My children’s t-shirt company took a hit when inventory supplies were back ordered for months. Ultimately I had to put a pause on the site and am still seeing delays for even a basic baby onesie. Hopefully I am able to rebuild all the hard work I’ve put into Little & Loom Co. With that I had to pivot my family photography business as well. We had to pause sessions this spring but luckily business in the Fall was booming. Everyone was ready to get out of the house and take family portraits. I was so thankful for that! While all of this was going on I started up my own personal blog! (thanks for stopping by today! ). Not sure what the future holds I know that if I continue to grow this I will always have readers and be able to post about parenthood hacks and products I love regardless of what is going on around in the world. This year has taught me you never can be prepared for what may happen, so a back up plan is always a good idea.
